This is a great way of experiencing several of these cycle trails in a short period of time.

We are conveniently situated within the Rotorua/Waitomo/Taupo tourist triangle. This area is rapidly becoming the heart of cycle trail adventure in the North Island. Come and see why!

Waikato River Trails

Between Atiamuri and Arapuni, and running along side the Waikato River, are a series of short trails collectively known as the Waikato River Trails. Cycle through native forest, pass towering ignimbrite bluffs, see beautiful lake reflections, and listen to the bird song. The lower tree canopy means that the bird life is much more observable than on some cycle trails and fantail and tui are often seen along this part of trail.

The latest Yogi Bear movie was filmed right here in the Ongaroto Reserve (Whakamaru Reserve). This trail is graded 2 to 3 and is mostly flat with some short steep sections.

Pureora Timber Trail

Cycle thorough New Zealand’s historic past as the trail follows the old logging tram track which winds through native bush and will eventually include the spectacular Ongarue Spiral and a 90 meter suspension bridge.

The first part of this bike trail is open and is an easy 8 kilometre ride through spectacular native bush and return on the same track.

This first part of the track is very easy riding that can be enjoyed by anyone. Native trees tower overhead as you bike through mature native bush.

Bridges are all sturdy and well constructed. When the final stages of this ride are opened there will be a total of seven bridges ranging from 50 to 110 metres long and as much as 40 metres above the water below.

By mid 2012 the remaining sections of this track will open and will be a 70k, 2 day, mostly easy ride through cuttings, tunnels and the famous Ongarue spiral.

The Maraeroa is a 23k cycle trail that winds through native trees and on forestry roads.

It covers a diverse landscape as you cycle through cut-over regenerating bush, metal forest roads, a short sealed section through the tiny settlement of Pureora, grass and bush track. Graded 2 to 3.
